Green algae

Around 450 green algae species have been documented in Iceland.

A checklist of freshwater and terrestrial algae from 2007 is available on the IINH website, Þörungatal (Fjölrit Náttúrufræðistofnunar No. 48, in Icelandic with English summary, PDF format).

A list of marine algae is available in Icelandic on the Flóra Íslands website. The Icelandic Marine and Freshwater Research Institute also carries out research on marine algae.
